help me
for months now with multiple re-installs of both windows and media jukebox I have the problum of mj shutting itself off . With a fresh install it might work for the first session but after that after 20 to thirty seconds its gone.
I use windows 2000 have 1 gb of ram and oodles of extra memory.
with 2000 + cds stored in ape files I am more than exhasperated.
I loved your product when it worked........

Can you post your system info here? In Mj go to help>System Info.
-Check your system clock
-Your MJ version is Licensed?
-Save your library, Unninstal and reinstall MJ again

I would be so appreciative of your help finding a solution to this problum of mine....
I had no idea what an imposition it wuld be to ose access to the music I have archived in .ape files .....

try doing a registry cleaning.  you do have  a registry cleaner dont you?  you sound like a person that would.  but i think you might be having a bad hotkey messing you up.

also you might make a lot of little playlists for the  different styles of music instead of one large one  which is to say that 2000 cds with 10 songs on a cd equals 20,000 songs  and that is a lot of songs to put into ram to list in a playlist.   so besides the bad hot key you might be hitting the trouble that i found in a lot of video games that use ram.  

which is the programs crash when they try  to use  the swapfile cause ram is full.  

there is  not much else to think of  but wait for awhile and maybe some one else will have a different answer for you.

if you have any plug-ins installed remove them to include slideshow

turn off all visuals

I had the same shutdown problem. I deinstalled then reinstalled which fixed the problem.

I have i gb of ram so I doubt that is the problum,but I will clean the registry
I have re-installed at least 7 times
I never use visuals
i dont know about slideshoqw but I use mj just for the monkey audio plug in

looks like registry cleaning and a re-install may have solved my problum.

so now its a few days later and it does not stay on more than ten or fifteen seconds again.....
I should not have to reg cleaan as often as once a week....
I can barely use it to find out the location of things to use monkey audio to decompress them to make cds to listen to.
winamp recognizes ape files with plugin but makes hissing noises .

I really nead help this is my collection out of my reach !!!!!
I am so frustrated with this product
monkey audio is the only plug in I use and without it mj is of no use to me.
I rarely if ever use visualizations.
what can I do .??!!!!???!!!! ? ?

If I were you, I'd back up your MJ license and put it someplace safe. Now uninstall MJ and any garbage left in your registry. Now go to the Media Center 9 forum and DL latest build (9.1.291). Install it (installs as a 30 day trial until you purchase) and see if everything works. If it does...then there's your solution. You would consider it $40 well spent (you may qualify for a discount if your license is MJ8...vs MJ7). If not, uninstall MC & reinstall MJ8 and reapply your license.

the new version has no yupdates that i need I only use as  a jukebox for ape files....
what if version 9 stops working when they make version 10
I already spent almost $40 ON MJ 8 AND IT WAS ALL I NEEDED
i  try not to give money to people who make there own products obolete
at the same time I really liked mj8
I was/am hoping you guys/gals would not be those folks who sabatage the old product to force us to buy the new......
when I need the new features of nine I would buy it but now ....

The reasons MJ8 stopped working are certainly not clear...and JRiver would never do anything as diabolical as sabotaging your setup. If MC works now, then it will for an eternity, assuming no user error and/or installation of incompatible "post MC installed" programs.

re-installed windows way more than ten times since this problum surfaced....
I have never ran a pop up blocker.
new ideas??

Possibilities...

1) W2k is at SP4 now, and your at SP1
2) Bad RAM (very unlikely)
3) Conflict with another rip/burn program (what do you have installed?)
4) Cracked version installed at some point (but that wouldn't survive an OS reinstall)
5) DL and install latest ASPI (I think it is 4.7.1.2)...regardless if MJ uses it or not

Did you try MC? How did it run?

Idownloaded mc and it worked for one day....
now it too is responding this way
I have nero express on my computer now but did not need-have it when all my troubles began. (I used mj for those functions)
what is sp4 and sp1 ?I have only installed official versions from you folks.
I will have to ask a friend about latest aspi...

SP4 = Windows 2000 Service Pack 4

Run Windows Update (you must use IE for this). You may be way behind on updates so be prepared for some downloading and a few reboots. At this stage, all you really need is all the "critical" updates, SP4, and DirectX (9b). I hope you have a broadband Internet connection.

First off, I'll assume you've reverted back to MJ and that your running the latest version of Nero.

It could be that your library is corrupt. You might as well delete all the *.jmd files in the Data directory under the Media Jukebox directory (make sure MJ is not running). After doing so, start MJ up and see if it gets further. If it does, then re-import your media.

If you still have problems then uninstall Nero. Backup your MJ license (if you haven't done so) and uninstall it as well. Reboot and re-install.

I appreciate your time and attention.
second I just got rid of the .jmd files
I will on a new day mess with the updates.(dsl)
my nero was bought in brasil who knows if it is recent or not.
but I installed only a month ago after a year of difficulties with mj.
I have not reverted to anything I guess I have both or at least mc


IS THERE A WAY TO CATALOG ALL THE .APE FILES ON MY COMPUTER OUTSIDE OF MJ/MC ?
maybe its just the directory that is causing the prob (like you said)
mc died after I burned what the screen said was jerry acoustic nov-84
and my cd turned out to be cat stevens ??....
so I used my 10 seconds at a time and used mc to find the location of the file,decompressed it with monkey audio and burned the wav with nero and it was jerry (not cat stevens)
if I remember correctly my first failure with mj happend after I ripped a cd into the hds and then it (mj8) thought that every cd I put into the drive was that title .
I will do the updates and let you know thanks again

I like the look of mc and if we solve this look forward to purchasing it
