Copy Protected CD
« on: October 18, 2003, 05:57:32 pm »

Hi Matt,

I recently purchased a CD with Copy Controlled.

Does MJ have any plug-in to play these files in MJ?

Do a search. There have been some work-arounds described in some past posts.

I had a copy protected cd and all of the workarounds didn't work.
I think every cd drive reacts differently to it.

I just got a new Plextor Premium drive and it does not read the cd protection.
And did you know that if you hold the shift key when you close a cd drive the auto start for that cd isn't activated.... ;)

What company is the cd from?

Hi Modelmaker,

Thank you for the tip.  I've checked the trails of messages.  It works.

a) Use Nero 6.0 to read the Protected CD.  It reads it perfectly.
b) Use Nero 6.0 to COPY the CD to another CD.  Nero will alter some of the track properties.  I did set some options in NERO so that it sort of copy it track by track.  Not sure which made its work.
However, the newly copied CD behaves exactly the same as the original.  However the tracks are now AUDIO.  In the original, some tracks are data, and some are audio.
c) On the newly copied CD, it still behave exactly like the original, but all the tracks are now AUDIO CDA tracks.
Create a new compilation.  This was different from the first CD copy.  This is a new compilation with the format AUDIO.  Read the tracks from the COPIED CD in Nero, copy over to the compilation.  NERO will translate the CDA into WMA format internally.  Burn the new CD.  The newly BURNED CD (Copy 2) can now be ripped.
d) Rip the COPY2 CD
