I can't figure this one out. How can I create a rule that says: play only 1 song from each artist within this predefined group (regardless of how many tracks there are per artist).

I've tried  nodup but that gets rid of all artists that have more than one track.

You can do this with lots of smartlists. First create a smartlist for each artist  to select one track by that artist. Eg:

[Artist]=[Fleetwood Mac] ~n=1

[Artist]=[Peter Gabriel] ~n=1

[Artist]=[Pink Floyd] ~n=1

[Artist]=[Genesis] ~n=1

All you have to do then is create a smartlist that consists of all the artist smartlists:

Playlist:Fleetwood Mac 1 Track Playlist:Peter Gabriel 1 track Playlist:Pink Floyd 1 track Playlist:Genesis 1 Track

I figured I could do it that way, but that's not really an option--too time consuming, and defeats the purpose of smartlists, really. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

This was mentioned before and Matt did say he would fix it but it was before all the"Big Deal" stuff kicked off so was probably put on the backburner...Matt, any chance this could be done?  Some kind of limit to individual elements in smartlists?  Changing the nodups behaviour would be okay if a new thing couldn't be implemented...
