Cover Art Issues
« on: October 27, 2003, 05:12:04 pm »

I recently downloaded Media Center 9 evaluation.  I want to use it with the Cinemar MainLobby/MusicLobby products.  I haven't started ripping my CD collection yet so music files are in a single directory with Artist - Title naming.

I'm having some problems with the Cover Art feature, both built-in and the plug-in.

A large number of downloaded covers are wrong - here are some examples of what I get:

   Album title matches tag but artist is wrong

   Album title matches artist name in tag but artist is wrong

   Album title similar to artist name
      Rock Me Amadeus by Falco (no album in tag) returned "Tav Falco's Panther Burns"
      Feelin' Alright by Traffic (album: Traffic) returned "Traffic from Paradise" by Rickie Lee Jones

   Nothing matches
      Back 4 the Morning by Neja returned "Meja"

There doesn't seem to be much control over what is actually downloaded.  If possible, this feature should have the ability to select and confirm the cover before adding.

Also, a number of my files have the same album names from different artists (Greatest Hits, Ultimate Collection, etc.).  It seems the program creates files like

   (Multiple Artists) - Greatest Hits.jpg
   (Multiple Artists) - Ultimate Collection.jpg

and then uses these whenever the Album Name matches.  The result is the wrong cover at least part of the time.  A few don't match any artist in my collection.

Windows Media Player 9 seems to be more flexible and accurate with cover art, though I'm not sure exactly how they do it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I don't see that changing.

Both MC9 and The Plug-in will render that the server search returns.

with the plug-in you can turn off some of the options to get a better match (you may not get as many matches howerver). all matches are based on what you have in the file tags.

I am having the same Multiple Artists Coverart problem.

Does the search criteria for the cover art search not include artist name ?
Does it only search by album name ?

Granted you won't get as many hits using two criteria but it will be more accurate.

If you look at the options presented with MC9.1's cover art finder
< Right-click -->>  Image -->>  Get from Internet >
There is then an option of  "Standard" or "Loose" .

In the plugin, there are individual settings for the first, second, and third passes . . . .  and each can be set independantly.
This is where you can 'tighten-up' the restrictions to better prevent incorrect cover art.

If I still find some covers to be incorrect,  then I
< Right-click -->> Images -->> Remove Cover Art >
and I manually find the correct cover art at a site such as Amazon.com or AMG allmusic.com, download it, and assign it to the files.
