DVD volume

My DVD playback is soooooper quiet, so quiet that i can actually hear the drive reading through my speakers. Any tips?

ps - is there a way to have MC play a DVD on startup. I thought I had it figured out, but apparently I don't. It will start up properly on some DVD's, but won't play automatically.
