I recently bought a Jazzy 3-in-1 MP3 player (handheld) with USB interface, and have just started using Music Jukebox 8, but it does not appear to support this handheld and I cannot find a plugin on this web site.

I can empathise with you - Im still stuck with Realjukebox because my player has no MJ plugin.

Heres a quick answer: If your handheld appears as a disk drive when its plugged into your PC then youll be able to see that drive in MJ under 'My computer' and can move files onto it. If it doesnt, youll need a plugin I think. If there isnt a plugin on the website then Im afraid that there probably isnt one. Dont know this particular player - I guess its possible that a plugin for another player may work, but I suggest you dont try without a clear recommendation from someone who knows. Others on this board know much more than me - Im sure youll get more info later.

And by the way, its worth keeping MJ purely for its organisational capabilities if you also play your mp3s from your PC.

[EDIT: I think 'My computer' is called 'File location' in MJ8 - Im working from memory because Im using v9 - either way its a way of viewing your files by their location on your PC. Hope that helps]

How much music does it store (in hours / minutes)? Is it easy to use? These things are not mentioned in the offer, which makes me suspisious. ?

I know SFA about MP3s.

Now for my opinion: I have a Philips Rush with a 64mb  Smart media card. If I really compress my mp3s (64kbps) I can get 2.5 cds on it, and since I use it on the way to work Im not too bothered about sound quality because of too much ambient train/traffic noise. Its 2 years old, cost me about £200 at the time, and works great - but I have to use RealJukebox with it because it doesnt show as a disk drive and there is no MJ.MC plugin. I will never buy a player that doesnt show as a disk drive again. I refuse to be locked into the software supplied, however good. Yeah, sure, Id like an IPod, but personally Im not bothered (yet) about massive storage - I want the smallest player I can get. For £60, the Jazzy sounds alright, assuming its brand new and you get all the accessories - itll probably work fine, and you probably cant go wrong. Basically I dont think you will get cheaper, but it may be worth your while researching options. Once you have tried digital audio, though, you will never carry a portable CD player again Sorry no definitive answers, but just my opinion.

A plugin for another player will not work. Hopefully this player shows up as a removable drive so you are all set.

Clutching at straws - I do have a smartmedia reader which will allow me to view the smartmedia card as a disk drive. However experiments in the past with my Rush have shown that although the files appear on it they dont appear as mp3s, and Ive been unsuccessful in getting the Rush to read files transferred onto the card. Is it possible that there may be a way to copy and rename files in such a way that I can bypass Real Jukebox? Or, in your experience, would files be converted into a player-specific format by the software that would mean that without cooperation from the manufacturer you are stumped?

Sorry to hijack the thread but its possible that this might be a way to use the Jazzy with MJ, if not the Rush?

What do the files show up as, if not mp3?

Are there any other files on the player such as a database file?

Hey, thanks for the helpful replies, guys! A few follow-up points herewith:-

1. No, lee269, I ain't gone away, and yes, your pic and details suggest that you found the same product. Can you supply the URL of the German site? I bought mine on www.thegadgetstore.com  (a subsidairy of Serif who appear to specialise in very cheap products) but I cannot out who is the manufacturer, and their technical support people have told me there's no plugin available.

2. Yes SKNN, despite the above, the Jazzy seems to me like good value for money at 60 quid - I'm no expert but this appears lots cheaper than the mainstream products to me. And (so far at least) it works, sounds OK, and I can use the proprietory software OK to up/download MP3s. It stores 64Mb but I haven't translated this into running time yet.

3. No, I can't see the device as a disk drive. It also stores 'REC' files but I can't see this is relevant.

4. Is anyone from MJ monitoring this thread and/or planning to help and/or offering to create the missing plugin? I confess I've come across the Musicmatch jukebox since I posted my question and am thinking of ditching MJ for this anyway...

I am from JRiver.  What software comes with the Jazzy 3-in-1? Is it from RioPort?

SteveG, thanks for your response, but that's a good question I don't have an answer to. It appears to be a small proprietory application entitled simply "Jazzy Player" whose "About" option reveals nothing at all about its make, version, date, or indeed anything. It offers an FTP-like pair of windows (local files + device files), plus upload & download functions, not much else.

Dunno whether this helps you to help me... ?

From your description, it does not sound like it is the RioPort software. This means that in order to support this player we would need some information and code from the manufactures of the Jazzy player. I can try to find a contact for them and see if they will cooperate with us.
