Upgrade to 9.1.298
« on: November 08, 2003, 05:17:56 am »

I just upgraded to 9.1.298 from version 8.

It corrupted my Windows XP Home Edition install.

Now everytime I right-click on any icon or file in the OS I get the error message "Failed to load product info file".

When I step-back my settings to a time before the upgrade everything is fine.

I have determined that it is ANY MediaCenter 9.1 build which causes this behavior on my PC.

The 9.0 build and the 8.0 build do not exibit this behavior.

We'll definately look into it.  Hopefully it'll be a quick fix.

Sorry for the troubles.

I had the same problem when I upgraded from 9.0 to 9.1 after doing the following procedure:
- complete deinstallation 9.0
- new installation of 9.1
- deletion of the ./data dir of MC
- copying of the old ./data dir of MC9.0 (in oder to keep the library)

After that procedure I got the described error message when I wanted to start MC 9.1.

I deinstalled/reinstalled MC, but this time I only copied the *.mjd files to data. Then it worked file.

The behaviour is reproduceable: replacing the ./data dir with one from 9.0 causes the problem.

Maybe this is also the reason when one installs MC 9.1 over a 9.0 version.

Hope that helps, Hank

Erasing things from the data directory will cause problems.  MC looks there for settings, art, etc.

Not sure how to best protect against this.

Any ideas?
