Until my MC9 ripping problems are resolved I will, unfortunately, be forced to use a 3rd party ripping application. Can anyone help me to understand the preferred fields and order to use in order to be completely compatible with MC9?

My options are the following:

Track
Track Number
CD or Artist Title
Release Year
CD Title
ID3 Music Type
freedb Music Type
CD Artist

Sorry if the Newbie question made no sense. I was under the impression that certain applications required tag information to be formatted in a specific way. I was trying to learn if MC9 needed, or expected, the fields to be in a certain order or disregarded one or more of the categories and therefore, wouldn't want that field imbedded in the name.

I'm gathering from your response that it doesn't make any difference how the names are formatted, and that MC9 will display the information correctly without me obsessing over the format or the chosen fields.

Is that correct.

MC allows you to tell it how the filename translates into tags.

You can set the format MC should expect to find in the filename for a group of files and it can then "Fill properties from filename" as a function within MC.

Select file within MC -->> Right-Click -->> Library Tools -->> Fill Properties From Filename

Tags should be inside the file and has nothing to do with the file name.

if tags are not in the file (like they should be) mc9 will allow you to get the tags from any filename format you like by allowing the user to change the Rules.

The info about tags is correct.  However, I understand that some MP3 portables and car players, although they read tags will play tracks in alpha order based on the file name.  Therefore I always start the file name with the track number, using leading zeros (01, 02. . . 09, 10, 11).  I usually name files track no., track title, album, artist, just so I can identify them easily without a tag viewer.  Probably overkill.

when you go to burn cd's there are some options there to allow order if i remember correctly
