Another Creative Nomad query.
« on: December 02, 2003, 07:03:49 pm »

Hi All,
Over the last week or so I have been toying with the idea of building a "2 PC's in a flightcase" job for my pro rig (urm... can never have too many 'backups')

I had an email out the blue from a supplier pushing the Creative Nomad Zen Xtra (or some such - it has 60GB anyway)...... Hmmmm I thought - could save me building this 2 PC's project - as I know there is a plugin for it (for MC).

Three questions:
1.  Is this unit any good?  What is the reliability like?
2.  Can it accept MC playlist data. (so effectively I have all the playlists I have defined in MC on the Zen?)
3.  Is it relatively easy and intuitive to use?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Laffer.

Not to Hijak your thread... But does it also have track #'s? (Nomad Jukebox3 doesn't)

Laffer,

I will let others chime in on subjective topics such as reliability, easy to use and intuitive, I think people who use it all the time would be a better judge on those.

In regards to can it accept MC playlist data, the answer is yes.

imjustagamer,

I do not see a way to view track number on the Nomad unless it is included in the 'Name' tag. The track number is viewable from within MC when the Nomad is connected.

I just got the 60GB Nomad Zen Xtra and love it.  I was able to take my 245GB worth of APE file music (700+ albums) and convert it to Standard High VBR MP3 files and fit the whole shebange on the Nomad.  The MC9 Nomad plug worked very well in downloading all of these files (took a couple of hours) and now I have a protable version of my home system.

I am not sure what you mean by "2 PCs in a flightcase", but this appears to be the highest capacity player in the smallest package for reasonable cost.  Creative players are also reputed to have some of the best sound of any MP3 on the market.  IPOD is smaller but more expensive and lower capacity.  If you want to step up to video capabilities as mentioned above, you are definitely going to go up in price and size.

As for does it have track numbers, no it doesn't but I don't see the need for that in a portable player.  No this player does not have anywhere near the sorting capabilities of MC9, but you can only display so much info on a 2" by 1 1/4" screen.  You can sort by artist, album, genre, track name, and create playlists.
