MJ8.0.393 & ID3 tags
« on: December 12, 2002, 12:04:54 pm »

This problem is a regression from previous builds of MJ8, where it was fixed.

1)  Install MJ8 & install the MP3 plug-in
2)  Import MP3 files that don't have ID3 tags
3)  Open Windows Explorer & click View - Detail
4)  Bring up Properties of the MP3 file(s)
5)  Change some of the information (if it is even listed)
and try to save it.  What I got was this pop-up:

A disk error occurred during a write operation.

I have MJ8 set to save ID3v2 tags in both places as the Help suggests.  If I try to change the tags in MJ8, it doesn't transfer to Windows Explorer listing.  Anyone have any idea what this is happening?   :'(  ?  :(

Thanks,
Timothy

By "both places" I assume you mean save as defined in the ID3v1 Mode combo box and the ID3v2 Mode combo box. If you have them voth set to Save (as necessary) then it creates both (obviously...that's how mine is set up). Your files aren't Read Only, are they?

See if you can tag them with one of the other million free taggers available on the 'Net.

Yes, to both places being set to Save.  No, the files are not Read-Only.  Yes, I can edit the ID3 tags using other tools (Tag&Rename is what I tried).  However, it still doesn't reflect the change in Windows Explorer and I still get the error if I try to edit the file in Windows Explorer.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

I don't know...(you must be using XP, I don't see any normal tags like artist, name, etc under W2k). Maybe Windows has an underlying database that isn't getting updated (or needs to be refreshed). I think XP has trouble with ID3v2 tag's anyhow.

Why use are you using Explorer to do tag edits?

This is not an MJ problem from what you've described.

well it really has problems with MJ8's media tags.

I don't know if they changed it in MJ8 (i don't think they did) but MJ9 fixes this since MJ9 now uses common Id3v2 tags. where MJ8 was using J river Extended Id3v2 Tags (some programs including windows XP explorer has problems with it).
