FYI: CD Burning (Sony CRX-160E)
« on: December 10, 2002, 06:42:10 am »

Some lessons learned while using MJ v8.0.393:

Device: Sony CRX-160E 12X/8X/32X v1.0
OS: XP Home Edition SP1

Kept having CD-R write errors as soon as the Lead-In was written (CD Writer was in Test Mode).  Here is what I did to fix my problem:

1. READ the help site on CD Burning from JRiver.  This is where I got hints and successfully used them.
2. Put my CD-RW device as master on the IDE bus NOT connected to the hard drive.
3. Installed the latest ASPI Layer v4.71.2.  Again, the CD Burning hints has a link to follow.  The software is free.
3. Completely power off after ASPI layer was installed (not just a restart !!)
4. Experiment with the writing power of your CD-R/W device.  Start out with 1X and work up until a write failure occurs.  Mine quit at 12X, but 10X worked fine.

If you use generic CD driver (selectable from MJ CD Writer Options), I was able to achieve 10X without errors.  However, it used lots of CPU and had to uncheck "Convert mp3 directly..." option.

Got 10X to also work with ASPI Layer.  This approach did not use much CPU and "Convert mp3 directly..." option was selected.  Created and played back a CD-DA.

Hope this helps
