(slightly) OT - What kind of user are you ?
« on: December 09, 2003, 05:12:01 pm »

Following discussions some of this board's member had, the question is raised as "what kind of audience does this board represent". Maybe you care giving it an answer ;) !

Besides, why do you participate to this board and what do you expect from it (e.g. help with bug/mis-understandings, development proposals, mere chatting, etc...) ?

I'm usually not a board addict and got onto this board as I had troubles with some older versions of MJ/MC.

I was surprised how quickly one got an answer to his questions and - when necessary - to see how versions would get debugged based on users comments. It is nice to know that the software you like using benefits from such a following-up, especially in regards with users expectations. I thus dared make a few proposals myself and hope I might some day see (part of) them implemented, though I would feel somehow "honored" to have been listened to.

I now follow this board quite closely because I'm now pretty interested - as a software developer myself - to see how the MJ/MC community and J River interact to achieve what I think is an excellent piece of software, especially when considering the speed of its development/improvement.

I hope I didn't overstep my privileges by starting this poll and apologize deeply to J River should it not be appropriate.

Kind of limited choices, eh?

How 'bout:

I'm a man.

I like shiny things.

Beer cans the bestest.

And stuff that goes BANG!

But not my speakers.

Stuff that is usually on my mind is listed here.

I must fall into whole different catagory.

So far, it seems you are right JimH. I was *dead* wrong !

I have an audio/video electronics background. Up until 1 1/2 years ago  my previous computer experience goes back 30 years ago to a high school course (the first in our school) in computer "programing". We learned fortran, cobal and everything was done with punch cards (remember "chads"!) and an IBM 360 computer which took up half the floor of the building.

A  year and a half ago I bought a used HP Pavilion for $150 and started learning. I rebuilt the HP, new motherboard, cpu, hd, and writer and with some help learned fast. I am now in the process of building my 3rd, which will be used 80% for media/HTPC and the balance for bookeeping and research for my modelmaking business.

So, I'm just a daily user that learns something new every day. I lurk here alot and share what I've learned when I can.

It's an amazing group of people here.

When I need help with some of the functions in MC or plugins.

But I must admit that mostly because it has become a habit to see what's on.

I like the gnabbing and chatting style here especially when it come to license and price. That's the best part.  ;)

The tone is mostly very "nice"  ;D
