Erase store bought CD
« on: December 07, 2002, 06:32:04 am »

I recently bought a CD then ripped to my hard drive. I sent the store bought CD to my ex-wife, she said it was blank; What would to that?

Some CD players have problems with Copy protected CD's.

Wow!.......Alimony is tough these days!

Maybe you could change the divorce settlement to say "send copies of CD's" rather than "send original (factory) CD's". Getting lawyers involved for a rewrite sounds $$$. Just a thought, though.

I don't think it's possible. If they were doing that with CD's on purpose,

1. there would have to be a CD burner AND a CD/RW involved and

2. we would have certainly heard about it and been properly enraged.

That is the more likely scenario. Burn a CD from the rippped CD and see if that one plays. If so, see if the Store CD still plays on yours. If it's truly blank, the cavalry needs to be called out. Paul Revere needs to make another ride.

.... What? OK, sure. Buy her another CD. Giving an ex-wife a CD copy (or vice-versa -- same thing) would be more toward the darker end of the grey area of "Fair Use".
