Would it be possible for anyone to  make a playing now-type plugin for the media pad that comes with Logitech diNovo, or would that be Logitech's department?

The media pad / remote control has this really neat lcd window that shows track info if used in windows media player, but MC has no support for this

I second this request.  I just received the Logitech diNovo for Christmas, and think it is a wonderful package.  I was able to get it to work with MC, but not in an optimal fashion.  Sending the Now Playing info back to the MediaPad, as is done with a few other players, would be a great addition.  It can't be too hard to do so.
