Mediacenter random closes
« on: December 27, 2003, 04:53:23 pm »

Just upgraded my V9 to V10 for 9.99, thank you very much! - Due to a new GFX card i made a clean install of windows XP and so i formatted and upgraded to V10.

Unfortunately i got a recurring problem - i posted something about this possibly 2 months ago.

Mediacenter only stays open for around 13 seconds, within this 13 seconds i can play music, move files etc etc (can do anything as normal), this problem occurs even after formatting, but not everytime - sometimes a format will seem to sort the problem but i have no idea why!? - The reason for my many formats is due to this problem and im now just fed up with having to format, install all my drivers and hope the problem isn't there!

I have used various Mediacenter V.9 Builds & various Mediacenter V.10 - currently im on the newest build of V.10
I have used onboard audio from my Abit NF7 & my Audigy 2
I have used various music software musicmatch, mediasource, wmp, real player etc etc
The problems occurred in all these at least once.

*Oddly enough the problem doesnt occur in J River Jukebox* - could this shed any light on the problem??

I remember a reply from before saying it could be because 'i have cracked the software' - No i have bought V9 & upgraded to V.10!

Help AGAIN
« Reply #3 on: December 29, 2003, 01:43:17 pm »

Even more frustrating!

This time it has lasted about 3 days without a single crash - was extremley happy. then suddenly about 15 minutes ago it all happens again. random shut downs everytime i open the player, i cant even play a tune for more than 13 - 16 seconds, what the hell is up?

Can someone please post a reply with some ideas that i can try!! i mean anything is useful.

i didnt pay another 10 dollars for V.10 ontop of the 40 dollars for v.9 for a disfunctional program, i wouldnt mind so much if there was an alternative but we all know there isnt.

I know this is probably a one off case but i hope u value every paying customer.

Any input is appreciated.
Rich

Starting playing around now. used scheduler to force MC to stay open for a hour, the program opened up but still closed after the timelimit (about 15 seconds), once the progr5am had closed scheduler still thought it was open! - had 'in progress' in the window.

Just some more info, i know this will be a difficult thing to correct.

also tried forcing MC to compatibility mode, no luck, running out of ideas. will be very annoyed if i cant correct this after the money ive spent. . .

Could your processor be running hot at these times by any chance?

 . . . .  and since you said this:
Quote
I have used various music software musicmatch, mediasource, wmp, real player etc etc
The problems occurred in all these at least once.
??

. . . how can you possibly have the audacity to say this:
Quote
i didnt pay another 10 dollars for V.10 ontop of the 40 dollars for v.9 for a disfunctional program

I am just a bit confused by this apparent contradiction.   ?

I meant (sorry) this problem has occurred on THIS pc using several set ups - 2 GFX cards, 2 Sound cards, 2 Builds of MC.

BUT it doesn't occur in any other music software i have used, nor does it occur in J River Jukebox! what could possibly make this problem occur in MC and not in Jukebox, this must shed some light on the problem?

I have overclocked my CPU but its running at 40c in strenuous benchmarks, its only critical around 60c... I will try my default speed and see if it corrects the problem.

Ok maybe i shouldnt have said disfunctional... In my case this program doesnt work and i have paid 40 dollars. Im not blaming J River for this problem, i do believe this is a one off case, i just want some help to try and correct the problem!

MC is awesome and i would love to use it, but i cant...

More ideas people, please

If it isn't too much hassle, pop out your 8x CD drive, restart, and see if it still happens.

It may also be worth kicking down your FSB and PCI bus to see if it makes a difference.  A memory or sound card error could possibly cause this.

Nope same happens with onboard audio too, must be summin else.

What else is there that could possibly cause MC to just shutdown, personally i think its summin to do with the licence - but it occurred with my V.9 licence and V.10... is there anyway of checking?

Replace your current Media Jukebox.exe with this one:

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/tmp/Media Jukebox.exe

Let us know if it's any different.  If not we'll keep digging.

Thanks for helping!

u want me to completely uninstall and then reinstall this version. would it be easier to use msn messenger or another program rather than the forum and ill keep this thread up to date so that others that that may come into this problem can see the *solution* (if we get one) - my msn is richiearlett2003@hotmail.com.

if not then ill just use this forum (just thinkiing msn would be quicker)

ok when i first installed the program worked fine, but this was always the case UNTIL i reload my pc then the problem will come back. Sure enough the problem is back after a reload but with this version i actually get an error message which can only help.

the error is:

CRC Error - MUST CLOSE

what does this mean then?

Something is corrupt.

Next build will give more details, and we'll go from there.

Thanks.

Ok.  I have not tried MC10 .25 but with MC10 .24.  I got two seemingly random closes when doing syncs to my iPod.  I left a 400 file sync plus conversion from APE to MP3 going last night and no MediaCenter to be found this morning.  I saw the same behavior in a shorter time span last night.  I think I also lost MC10 one more time while I was working with it yerterday (I thought it was operator error, but maybe not).

Ok, i justcouldn't do without MC! so i formatted yet again...  ;D

Using the latest build of V.10. No problems so far. Got a response from another forum saying that the Radeon XT has compatibility problems with the audigy 2 due to the gameport so i have uninstalled the gameport.

fingers crossed the error doesnt come back, but i still would like to know why this was happening before, i hate not understanding the reason.

ill keep you posted if anything turns up.

thanks for your patience Matt
