MC with 24 bit output cards, does it do anything
« on: January 09, 2004, 10:35:58 am »

I notice that MC can output at a different rate to the given media, thus I could output at 24 bits and 96k.  I expect that the 96k output will do nothing if the MP3s are made in 44k, but i'm no DSP guru.  However I know that 24bits will make a difference even though the source MP3s are in 16 bits.

However if you play the 16 bits raw without any fx, then the 24 bits I expect will make no difference.  So question, are the MC fx using the headroom of 24 bits, actually working in 32 bits and dithering down to the selected bit rate.  I would expect this makes some difference to sound quality and less distortion and higher ratio.

So anybody notice any difference here ??

I'll try it soon with my Pulsar card and ASIO too.

Regards,
B.

IIRC, Matt said the FX are performed in 32 bits.

As far as noticing a difference, that might take better ears, and definitely would take better equipment than I have.
