Ripping from Music DVD
« on: January 13, 2004, 02:20:57 am »

Can anyone tell me if / how I can rip a music DVD to MP3.  Would I have to playback on a DVD player and then record via Line In or can I just rip it from my DVD ROM?

Yes,

I would also like to know if it's possible to do that. And then the 2 options:

1 - ripping to wav so I can play the DVD songs on a normal CD-player;
2 - ripping to mpeg so I can play the clip on my PC or compilate for my home DVD-player.

If it's not possible yet, then maybe in the offical version 10.  ::)

BeSweet does this job (Freeware, if I'm not wrong). You find it at http://dspguru.notrace.dk/ .With the Front-End BeSure it is easy to handle - it is said.
The Option "Recording from Soundcard" in MC does not work for me.  . I think this could also be a very easy way to handle DVDs.

If J River allow DVD ripping they must bypass CSS (using the DeCSS code)...

This in turn violates the DMCA...

That in turn opens J River up to the same lawsuits as 321Studios etc...

Even if its purchased content DVD ripping SW is illegal in the USA... Write to your congressman.

There is a main difference between Total Recorder and BeSweet:

Total Recorder streams the DVD from the Sound Card. You have to play the sound you want to record.
BeSweet does the ripping directly without playing the DVD.

It your choice ;)

In BeSweet, do you know whether you will get one only wav file for the whole DVD or different wavs track by track?

Thank you.

For backing up DVDs and alternatively isolating audio steams, you might try:

DVD Decrypter (very nice interface, supports 24bit audio)
vStrip (ulitmate flexibility, high learning curve)
SmartRipper (easy, flexible, only knows 16bit)
