Smartlist Help?
« on: February 03, 2004, 05:22:33 pm »

Does anybody know of a way to build a smartlist that shows VBR MP3 only?

i don't think you can do that since that info is not kept in the database.

Is it in the tag? Can it be put there?

I think when you pull it up to look at the properties MC pulls that info up.

it is not really a tag it is part of the header that needs to be decoded.

i have some of this info on my http server here is a link

yes a plug-in can be made to read the mp3's and save this info into a field, at that point you could then make a smartlist.

All my VBR MP3s are ripped at a high quality, whereas most of my normal MP3s are 128 KB/s so it's easy to configure a search to only look for bitrates > 128

Hope this helps

I have some files that are ripped at VBR extreme and MC shows bitrate 112..?
I think it calcultes averige bitrate or shows the bitrate of the first frames of VBR file

MC should always show the correct average bitrate.  Divide the file size by the seconds to double-check. (multiply by 8 so you have bits)

If you ever find a file that MC fails to analyze properly, please send it to us.

You could create a new library field and fill it in by hand.  A search like -[Bitrate]=128 will get you most of the way there, so it'll only take a minute or two.
