Explorer Shell Integration
« on: February 05, 2004, 03:48:55 am »

Hi Matt,

As requested here is a thread concerning the explorer integration issue.  basically this hadn't worked properly for a long time but I put this down to the fact that my PC had a very old XP Install that had had numerous MC betas on there, with lots of changes regarding the shell menu.  Because of this I never reported this as a problem presuming it was my system.  Then at the weekend I reinstalled Windows on my PC.  Brand new install, bare windows, a virus checker and an uninstaller.  The next thing to be installed was MC.  So nothing else on there and no plugins.  When right clicking a file in explorer and selecting play I expected MC to open and then start playing the track...it did the first part.  It opened...but the track was not in playing now and it didn't play.  Replace and play does exacvtly the same thing...MC opens but playing now remains how it was at last shut down.  I do have this option ticked to keep Playing Now when the PC is shut down but would have thought shell integration would override this...

Thanks for listening,

Adam

Forgot to add sys info...I am not on my Home PC so cannot do a sys info copy but the basic details are:

Athlon XP 1800+ Proc, 384 MB Ram, Windows XP Pro SP1 using latest MC

I'm trying this:

1) MC isn't running
2) Right-click a file and pick "Media Center > Play"

And for me it's working.

Can anyone else reproduce the problem?  Could there be some non-default option that's causing problems?

Thanks Adam.

Don't know if this helps.

I followed Matt's instructions and MC opened and the track was in PN but did not start.

I cleared PN and exited from MC then used Matt's instructions again on the same track.  This time it did play.

To see if I could reproduce this I again cleared PN and exited from MC then rebooted and repeated the steps.  Same thing happened i.e first time it did not play on second or subsequent attempts it did.

I rebooted yet again to check and the same thing happened.

In case it may matter Tools->Options->Startup->Start playing current playlist is unchecked.

Just found something that is wrong so I am not going completely mad :)
The first option on my list is Play In Media Center.  I think this is a Windows addition due to MC being my default player for media files.  If I select an album of twelve songs and click this with MC closed I get 12 instances of the same song.  If I do this when MC is open I get the 12 different tracks...
This may be a windows bug however...

For me it didn't work the first time, probably because MC was using the media server and downloaded the library first. I switched it to the default library, closed the app and tried again and it worked fine.

Shell extensions weren't reliable with multiple files selected.

Hopefully it'll be fixed next build.  Let us know if it isn't.
