Sound distorted when visualizations in use
« on: February 16, 2004, 09:35:49 pm »

I have the registered version of media jukebox version 8, and I recently upgraded my operating system to Windows XP - home edition.
For some reason, when I have the Visualizations turned on, the music is terribly "distorted".
As soon as I turn the visualizations off, the music sounds fine.
I previously had windows 98 SE and everything worked just great.
I am wondering if this has something to do with windows XP.
I also have a notebook computer with windows XP installed, and Media Jukebox works just fine on it.
Any Suggestions??
Thanks,

Don't turn on visuals then

this may happen if your computer speed is not up to todays standards.

Windows 98 did not requirer the amount of memory as windows XP does.

if you do not have 512megs of ram windows xp will write to the swap drive and slow things down, where this may not have been a problem with windows 98.

so increase CPU speed or increase ram to 512megs.

you can also turn off all the skins and effects in windows xp under control pannel\system that may also help.

well i would think a 900+mhz could handle it

but even if MS recomends 256megs really that is the min you can use, I made that mistake on my wifes computer.

A Nice Video card will also help, since on the mother board video cards eat up system ram and cpu speed.

Check your playback mode (ie WaveOut, DirectSound) in MJ's Options. You should set it to DS if it isn't. There is a Settings button just to the right off it where you can adjust the buffer size. Experiment a little. I haven't noticed any of your symptoms when using any of the MJ viz's on a 700 MHz PIII, but when the OpenGL screensaver comes on during music playback, then I get a little popping. I don't run the viz's and I've switched the SS to Beziers now.
