CD Track timing error
« on: February 05, 2005, 03:06:53 am »

I've been burning CDs with MJ and MC for a few years w/out problems until...  about a month ago. When playing a MC burned CD, the time that a "track" starts and when the "song" starts not that same. That is, for example, I advance to track 6 on my cd player, display says track six, time 00:00, but the song is already a few seconds along. The problem is cummulative, such that on a long cd (75 minutes) with lots of tracks, the last song has played 10 seconds before the track counter changes.

I noticed a thread on the subject by Laffer from Aug 4, 04 titled "CD Burning track start/stop timing error". I note that JohnT felt there was a fix w/ 10.0.158, but I was already on 10.0.161 when the problem came up. I updated, now at 10.0.173, which did trim about 2 seconds off the problem by the end of the cd, but it is still a problem. Problem is the same with both burners I have.

Any thoughts? Please don't suggest I try MC11, though I am sure I will upgrade when it is released and stable.  Below are my system specs copied per MC10. I did install WinSP2 when it came out but this did not make any problems. NAV says I am virus free.

Thanks for any help.

Another note on the cd track timing problem....
I think that this has been a problem since I moved from MP8 to MC10 (sept 04). I haven't been burning lately, and my kids, who do burn a lot, didn't tell me something was strange.

okay, 3rd one from me (and no others) re the timing problem.  Found the thread:  "CD burn problems with 10.0" re needing to pre-decode. This solves the problem, but it does seem to imply the option to decode direct to disk is a non-function. Too bad, could be a nice feature if it worked properly. Maybe in a future release, yes?

Matt (if you read this, or anyone else privy),  in the thread mentioned above, you indicated that a new MP3 plugin in MC11 fixes this, and alluded to putting it into MC10. Any go on this? Should I get rid of my current one, and replace it with a new one from jriver? I'd like to go back to direct to disc if that fixes it.
