Feature Request: ReRip album?
« on: January 30, 2005, 01:47:01 pm »

Hi guys,

I've got about 7000 songs in my library, most of which I consider "backed up" on audio CD.  At least I know if my drive ever crashes I can re-rip my albums.  However I'm dreading the notion of correlating my library data if I ever have to re-rip, so I've been very diligent to keep a standard naming convention, etc.

But what if MC11 had the ability to re-rip an album or selected albums, overwriting the files (if they exist) and maintaining the database pointers to the newly re-ripped tracks?  Since the database keeps track of the filename and all other data about the original tracks, standardized filenames or not, it should be able to apply all attributes.  I'm thinking of workflow like this:

1) Highlight multiple albums that show red X's through them.
2) Right-click and choose "re-rip albums"
3) MC prompts "Please insert disc: [Artist] - [Album]"
4) Disc is inserted and rips based on the standard encoding settings.  Filename, path, and all other data is extracted from the album's database entry itself and _not_ from the standard settings or YADB.  Album art is downloaded only if the location specified in the image location tag is not found.
5) MC prompts "Please insert disc:...", etc.

What do you think?

I suggested the same procedure many moons ago...

There should be a feature "Update from database" besides "update from YADB".
