Howi do I make MC the Default Media Player

Evil microsoft in SP1 had the "set default program  access and defaults program".  It was supposed to allow one to choose their media player.

when i open this, with MC 10 installed, MC is not listed as option.,  My choices are to use Itiunes, W(i)MP, or QUicktime, or "my current player".

I have MC as the default program to play music and have the use default player checked.

But, it seems I cannot actually set MC to be the default player.

the raminfication is that when I push play on my keyboard (have a keyboard with media controls), it opens and plays Itunes.  I know for a fact that Itunes is not the default to play music files now..

Do you know of a registry hack or MC feature that will set it to be the default player?

did you try to set it thru windows explorer, folder options, file types?

and or in media center, options, file associations?

You can configure this with your keyboard software.  Which keyboard are you using?

Microsoft Wireless Elite Keyboard

You can choose the media player to be set to your default.. when I choose that, Itunes opens (even though it is not the default player for audio files)

When I set it manually to open the exe for media center, the play button,e tc all open and play itunes and not mc

Again, in windows set file associations menu, Media Center Does not come up as an option

In windows explorer, it lists media center as the default for mp3, etc...

I have the same keyboard and I set all the relevant keys to control MC directly via mjextman commands.  Using 'start a program, web page or file' in the key settings apply the following:

Media Key: mjextman.exe /Power
Play/Pause: mjextman.exe /MCC 10000,0
Stop: mjextman.exe /MCC 10002,0
Prev Track: mjextman.exe /MCC 10004,0
Next Track: mjextman.exe /MCC 10003,0

Works perfectly.. thanks!

I do think it is garbage though that Windows (XP) will not let us pick MC as our default media player
