Genre Drop-downs
« on: November 22, 2002, 10:30:58 pm »

Since I have downloaded V9. when I want to change the properties the Genre drop-downs have disappeared.  I don't want to have to remember exactly what the designations are, and V8. had a nice drop-down menu.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks

It's by design.  Drop down boxes will list all of the values for the selected files, instead of all of the values in your library.  (it's open for discussion, but was done for speed reasons)

If you want to assign files to pre-existing genres, drag-n-drop in the tree is probably the fastest way to do it.

Also, you can enter any genre you want.  You're not locked to any certain list.

Thanks parky.

I personally vote for seeing all Genre's for all the files in the library.

This usually shouldn't exceed at total 20 for anyone and for most people probably will be nearer to 10 and so wont be a problem to navigate.

Also, I often want to change the genre's to other ones in my library and right now I have to remember these. Not something I like having to do. Prefer to see a list.

...or... you could make some type = filter-as-you-go...well, you know like in IE address bar :) But I agree, some form of drop-down/list should exist. I miss it as well :)

I share Nilas view and arguments on this.
And - also in the properties view - it would be nice to have the apply-button visible if possible.

I agree with the suggestion to have the Properties Apply button visible.  It is a pain to have to open the dialogue box each time.

You never need to hit "Apply" -- MJ 9's fluid tagging will take care of everything for you.
