Review at CNET
« on: March 06, 2004, 07:46:36 pm »

Media Center got a nice review at CNET recently:

http://download.com.com/3000-2167-10235446.html?tag=lst-2-17

It got five stars or five supermen or whatever it is they use there.

Edit: Fixed Link

Yep - Nice to see.

Seeing all the comments on uninstall problems is a bit worrying though.  If I were reading those posts that would put me right off.  It's a bit unfair as I guess they are referring to a problem in an older version since I haven't seen any grumbles about this in the forum for a while.

Can't you post something there advising that the problem is fixed (assuming it is)?

OK.  I just posted a review saying I haven't had any problems uninstalling which is absolutely true.  It should be available for viewing within 4 days.

"Not enough customizations - it's like buying a one-size-fit-all shoe"

I kind of thought this was funny since media center gives users more control over there library than any other Jukebox.

Download.com gave Media Center A "5" and User: "Media_Center_is_the_worst" complains it is "Total trash" and crashes all the time (prob his system is running windows 3.1)

bad comments like this may hurt sales of the best jukebox avail, and for the $3 million spent on making media center to this point i think they did a dam good job.

However nothing is 100% Perfict

The problem with "user" reviews, as opposed to "professional" reviews, is that no one really knows who writes them.  :(

Given the outright ignorance of the complaint you quoted, odds are it was just written by some MM sales rep surfing the web on his lunch hour.  ;D

I guess the only thing we can do is write counter reviews to set the record straight, like JLee did.  ;)

But I also remember that user satisfaction was over 94% at the time of MJ7 or MJ8. I remember that this high degree of user satisfaction played a major role when I made the decision to buy the program for the first time back in summer 2001.

They were all good.  Some were better.

The Haitians say "le bon" (It's all good).

There's a lot of that around.

Gateley rode his motorcycle to work today in 30 degree weather.  When he got there, it began to snow.  We got about 3 inches.  At noon, everything was completely covered and cars were sliding into each other.  He was looking for a ride home.

By 3:00, it was mostly gone and at 5:00 he rode his bike back home.

All that ends well.

That review does make one good point; it explains how MC does not support PLS files in its playlists.  This is something I only understood recently, after asking about it here.  Indeed that review would have turned me away from MC, had I read it before buying (because I hate having to use another player just for streams).

However, I should add that I think Media Center is very good in all other respects (for what I use it for anyway).  Not being able to use it for streams (the way I want to use streams) drives me bonkers, but I'd still give it a thumbs up.

Both MJ7 and MJ8 got good reviews AND high user approval rate!
MC9.0 got a terrible review and a whole bunch of bad user comments citing frequent crashes, uninstall problems and association stealing.

I posted a review on CNET to support my favorite player.
Sure, Media Center is the king in this genre.
Users on CNET who post negative are incompetent people in this domain.

The Queen (we are the champions !) and the King (media center 10 !)

Yes, this thread.  I wasn't talking about file associations; the issue is that you can't put a remote PLS file in a Media Center playlist, or have it in Playing Now.
