Comparing library backups with current library state?
« on: December 14, 2004, 10:31:20 pm »

Is there a way to compare previous library back ups with the metadata that is currently in the library?  Im looking for something that would display all changes since the last back up.  I don't make many now becuase the data is good however sometimes changes are made whithout realizing it and an option that looks for discrepancies would be fabulous.

Unless I have done any tag editing or ratings or analyzed since the last library backup.

This is really my only concern about MC.  It is way to easy to change a tag.  There is a million different ways to do one thing in MC, which is one of the great things about it, however this eas and flexiblity of use creates huge possiblities to accidentaly change important tags without ever knowing it.

They eihter need to make it harder to change tags(not going to happen) or they need to do something like I suggest.  Problem is its not really in their best interest which is why I hop something like this actuall happens. http://home.hccnet.nl/th.v.d.gronde/dev/mddb/

There needs to be something that is independent and permanent regardless of the player, OS, and what have you.

I can see your concern, datdude.  Once a tag gets changed to something it's not, you're screwed.  I must say, though, that in previous versions of Media Jukebox when you could not change tag info (and all you could change was library info) it was very annoying, especially when moving files from one place to another.  But I guess what you're concerned about is how easily a tag change can be done.  I'm not sure how much it would annoy me if I got a confirmation dialog box every time I changed a tag.  Of course there could be an option to not display the dialog box for users like me.

Might be a good idea.

I'd think ratings should be harder to set. I have 'rated' a number of selections accidently over the years myself.

Again, I'm pretty sure that would annoy me, but no problem if the "difficulty" could be  switched off.
