Cover art over Media Server

I think the question speaks for itself. As far as I can recall, it has never worked for me.

i think it also depends on what version you have and if the files are in the file or external to the file.

I haven't really noticed; however, I have noticed that thumbnails seem to re-download/draw themselves everytime I connect to my server. I would think they would cache locally, especially considering the load sending 10,000 thumbnails must be putting on my connection...

I have my thumbnails in the file, maybe this is the problem?

I've been posting about this issue since the version 9 days.  When using the Media Server, cover art displays fine everyplace OTHER than the Track Info screen or the Playing Now window.  This is frustrating since this the track info screen is the one I use most of the time.

By the way, I always save cover art inside the files.

When I used to use V9, builds would come out where the trackinfo templates would not display the album art.

Two builds later it would work again, and then stop working another build or two later.

I'm holding off on trying to create any more TI templates until this stuff settles down and becomes stable.

I wonder if the field name has changed or something, and the instructions for making TI templates have not been updated to reflect this?

To the person who answered "yes," what MC version are you using?  Also, could you confirm that you are in fact looking at the "track info" page of the "playing now" screen (cover art shows properly on EVERY other screen in MC), and that the songs are being played via media server?  I've seen this same behavior on 4 different systems, so I'm curious what it is that you are doing different.

Do you store the cover art inside the files?

Thanks,

Larry

lalittle,

I was one of the people who answered yes, and I was wrong. I was not using the "Track Info" screen. I was using the "Cover Art" one! Ooops ::)

So, the correct answer is: No, I do not get cover art in any of the Track Info screens.

I thought that this might be the case.  Given the specific nature of the issue (i.e. only the "track info" screen of the "playing now" window shows the problem) it's likely that some people might simply confirm that cover art displayed over the Media Server in ANY window rather than specifically checking the "Playing Now / Track Info" screen.

Did the other person who answered yes make sure that they checked the specific situation we're talking about here?

I am playing a track now via Media Server, and I see album art in "Cover Art" and 3D Visualisations (all of them) windows, but NOT in Track Info or Visualisations windows.

Remember that there are a few visualisations (the collage ones) that use album art.

Interestingly, if there is no album art for a given track, these options display the MC logo no problem...

Contrary to what it seems like a lot of other people are doing, ALL of my cover art is saved OUTSIDE of the file. And it's never displayed in track info via a Media Server connection.

Apparently this issue is not effected by where the cover art is displayed.  I always save cover art inside files and track info does not display cover art either.

Regarding the "yes" responses to this question, at this point I find it highly doubtful that these responses were checking the correct spot.  I therefore believe that the survey is no longer accurate.  One person already admitted to incorrectly saying "yes" because he was not looking at the Playing Now / Track Info screen but the "Cover Art" screen instead.  I have a feeling that the other yes answers might be doing something similar -- i.e. they're commenting on whether or not Cover Art displays over Media Server AT ALL rather than specifically looking at the Playing Now / Track Info screen.  I tried MC plus Media Server on 4 different machines and they all had the same problem.

So far, other than the person who admitted to incorrectly answering "yes," nobody who has answered "yes" has specifically stated that they were checking the right spot for Cover Art.  If any of these people read this, please verify that you are checking the right spot.  We can all see cover art over Media Server just fine everywhere EXCEPT the "Playing Now / Track Info" screen.

Thanks,

Larry

lalittle, you are right. I voted "yes" without thinking, but sure enough, track info is not showing cover art for me when using Media Server.

It shows the "broken link" image with the red x in the corner.

The image preview in the AW shows up OK.

Definitely a bug.

Thanks for reporting this.  I have a feeling that others did the same thing you did when they answered "yes" to the poll.

Has this been fixed in a recent build, or is it still outstanding?

I'm not currently using Media Server with PC clients, but plan to in the future and cover art will be important to me.

It's still not working as of the 88 build, and the poll is completely misleading since we know at least a couple people weren't checking Track Info.  That means at LEAST 2 less "yes" votes and 2 more "no" votes.  Frankly, I'd bet that NONE of the "yes" votes are accurate.

Er, yes alright then I'll come clean. I answered "yes" without thinking. It doesn't work for me either and since I've spent the last week ensuring that every track in my library has associated cover art (and there are almost 12000 tracks) it would be nice to get this working.

xian,

Could you confirm that you're looking at the "Track Info" screen on the "Playing Now" window (i.e. this specific window), and that you're listenning to the songs via Media Server?  When using Media Server, it's only in this single, SPECIFIC screen that cover art isn't showing up -- cover art shows up everywhere else just fine over Media Server.

So far, 3 people have said that they incorrectly answered "yes."  When they answered yes to the question, they were seeing cover art somewhere OTHER than the Track Info screen of the Playing Now window.  When they checked the correct spot, it turns out that the cover art was NOT displaying properly.  Given the regularity of this problem for most people, I'm still highly suspicious that NONE of the people who checked "yes" were checking the correct spot.

Nevermind -- as of the .90 version cover art is now showing on the track info screen.

Thanks for the fix to the J River team!
