Question about encoding..
« on: March 16, 2004, 09:06:37 pm »

I have a Rio Karma and since the Karma is unable to decode the DRM built into Itunes mp4 files I was wondering if I convert them in MC will it allow me to play them on my Rio?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx in Advance.

it should do , just convert them to a format supported by the rio karma (mp3 or similar).

tools > advanced tools > convert format

just test try a few first to make sure

and be aware that converting lossy formats will reduce the quality each time you do so. if you have the original cd's id rerip them (subject to time constraints etc.)

That would be no.  I tried and it does not understand  the ITunes format.  Says incompatible format... Oh well....

The DRM in iTunes Music Store files does not allow file conversions.

If they were ripped to AAC in iTunes, I think you can convert them in iTunes. But if you purchased them from the iTunes Music Store, they are protected. Your only option is to burn to CD with iTunes and then re-rip them as mp3 with MC.

You can strip out the DRM...but I can't say how here. Hydrogen Audio is your friend.
