Files imported multiple times
« on: March 26, 2004, 01:20:18 am »

I promise to make my 3rd thread of the night quick.  In short: when performing an import, MJ will include a separate "copy" of each file for each m3u playlist it appears in, except for the m3u in the same directory as the file.  This isn't earthshattering, but it's annoying.  Workaround?  Fix?  MC10?

When I import (more precisely...open) an m3u in 8.0.396, I see a new playlist created under Playlists>Mixes...and that's the extent of it. If the path/filenames contained in the m3u are identical to those contained in your library...then that's all you should see, too. If not, then those m3u's probably aren't valid. Dbl entries of any file shouldn't occur when in Media Library view.

Here's a very simplified example.

music\disc\file1.ape
music\disc\album.m3u
music\playlists\list.m3u

album.m3u contains lines like this:
file1.ape
file2.ape

list.m3u contains lines like this:
..\disc\file1.ape
..\disc\file2.ape

Everything in m3u's like list is imported multiple times.

You will get multiple entries when imported under the following conditions...

1) The source drives|directories|etc are different
2) The formats are different

Although your not explicitly importing ape's off the CD's (or are you?), it must still be registering those files. It does exactly the same thing in Media Center (v10). I guess the workaround would be to set up the view schemes (even modify Media Library) to screen out CD based media files. Another possibility would be to uncheck the "Automatically import files..." (open Options in MJ and look around...should be in General) while your creating the playlist then re-check it when finished (haven't tried it...don't know if it works).

That's about what I expected.  Can you confirm that MC10 treats "dir1" and "dir2/../dir1" as separate directories?

I suppose a workaround would be if MJ/MC had an option to exclude a certain directory.  Not likely unless I find a lot of other like-minded users :(

Oops, I see the confusion.  "Disc" in my examples above really means "album name," not a physical medium.

After some testing, this doesn't appear to be any different in MC10, FWIW.
