Love my 60 gb Nomad Zen...It has never had any hardware issues ( also had the RCA Lyra...which I returned because it was so buggy and crashed 90 % of the time).  I chose the Zen over the IPod for purely financial reasons...I could get more for the dollar with Creative.  The only drawback, for me, is the battery...you can't change it yourself.  It requires you to send it in to Creative - same thing goes for the IPod.  But I believe this has been addressed in the newest Zen.   Hope this helps, and good shopping!   ;D

I have  currently have 11,313 tunes (16,755 MB) using MP3 VBR set at normal/high quality (leaving 16,755 MB free space).  I haven't finshed ripping my entire library yet, and will be adding more soon ( in case you didn't notice, I'm a music junkie....but, everyone has to have a vice or two) ;D
