Device Error on Some CD Burning
« on: February 08, 2004, 11:25:14 am »

I receive the following error, once in a while, and I can't figure out why.  Can anyone help me out?  I will put together 20 songs or so, for an 80 minute CD, I will run test and burn, but when the disk gets to the end I receive the following error:

A device error occurred. Error number is 1022
Error data is: KEY: 5 ASC: 24 ASCQ: 0

Any help will be much appreciated.  Thanks, Matt

For starters...
Copy & paste your sys info from MJ>Help>System Info.

Sounds like an ASPI problem or an outdated build.

Looks like it's neither. Do you have any other burn programs (ie Nero) installed? Did you strip out the drive info? (usually part of the sys info results). Maybe reinstalling 400 (w/o uninstalling original) will take care of it.

FYI: W2k is at SP4 now

Hi, I've had the exact same error message three times in the last three days:

A device error occurred. Error number is 1022
Error data is: KEY: 5 ASC: 24 ASCQ: 0

Every time it was when writing an additional session (i.e., additional MP3s) to a CD-r that already had a session with MP3s on it.

This is from my MJ>Help>System Info:

Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.400
Install Path: C:\Program Files\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium III 601 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 63 MB, Free - 12 MB
Resource Info: System - 86 %, GDI - 89 %, User - 86 %
OS: Microsoft Windows 98 SE

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2800.1106
ComCtl32.dll: 5.50.4916.400
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2800.1400
Shell32.dll: 4.72.3812.600
wnaspi32.dll: 4.71 (0002) , ASPI for Win32 (95/NT) DLL, Copyright © 1989-2002 Adaptec, Inc.
Aspi32.sys: N/A

Advice would really be appreciated!

Found the problem.  Apparently I tried to burn to much music to the CD.  I have a 80 minute CD-R and tried to put 79 min 30 seconds worth of music on it.  Even though it worked with the test burn, it failed on the real thing.  Cutting it down to 75 minutes worked fine.

Thats a different problem than what I had, then; with me I got the error message when it was (or started) burning one of the first tracks.

With the first CD it happened at, I thought it might have been because it was already (too) full too, but the second one still had 100s of MB free on it, so it can't have been that.

Burnt a few CDs (also additional sessions to a CD) since, though, so it only occurs erratically.

Still annoying, though. I am trying to burn my MP3s by genre, and now I gotta continue with, say, my reggea tracks on a new CD even tho this one is only half full yet.

To be more precise, I sometimes get error 1022 (specification as listed above) when MJ reaches the end of the first track of an additional session to a data CD, which in at least one of the cases was less than half-full (burning the MP3s as data CD, not as audio CD).
