iPod Ratings => MC: Sync = sporadic

Latest version of MC10, trying to sync ratings FROM iPod back to MC.

On first sync attempt of the session, MC overwrites the iPod ratings.  I've checked the appropriate option in the sync window to sync from HH-> MC.  But this does not appear to be consistent for me.  (this has been happening for many recent revisions).

Subsequent testing (within same MC session, after setting new ratings on iPod), MC syncs ratings just fine.  I don't get it...just a bit frustrating...

Does "Send Playlist Info" affect syncing ratings from iPod??

Thanks for any help!

SteveG:
Send Playlist Info does not affect ratings.

When you have 'sync data from HH to MC' checked, MC will be updated with ratings from iPod if the ratings on iPod are different from MC and the last time you synced is less than the modified time for the corresponding MC file. If a MC rating has changed since the last sync, the iPod rating will not overwrite it.

In the event that either the MC rating, composer, or comment has changed in MC in between syncs, the corresponding file on iPod will be deleted and resent.

Please let me know if you see behavior inconsistent with this.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

I see...  So, if there are rating delta's (or any delta) on both iPod and MC, MC wins.

This makes sense and probably does explain the behavior I have seen.  I'll pay attention next time to confirm

Thanks!

markp99,

Almost. MC wins unless iPod was changed more recently than the file in MC in which case iPod wins.  For example if you have a file rated '1' in MC and sync it, then disconnect the iPod and rate it '2' and then reconnect and open the synchronization dialogue with 'Sync data to MC' checked, MC will update the file to rating '2'.  If you repeated this test, but while the iPod was disconnected updated the file in MC to rating '3' iPod would not overwrite with 2 because the date modified in MC would be after the last sync.

Sorry it is kind of complicated, but I think the logic of it is sound.

Steve

Dumb Question -

How do you rate a song on the Ipod?
