OT-- Peter Gabriel - Growing Up tour
« on: November 16, 2002, 09:22:37 am »

I saw Peter Gabriel (supported by the Blind Boys of Alabama) here in Minneapolis last night. Great show. Catch him on this tour if you can. Some really unusual stage props. At one point he was bouncing around the stage inside a giant, see-through ball. Unreal!

Peter Gabriel always works with very innovative people.

This show (as was the previous tour) was developed in close association with Robert Lepage, considered one of contemporary theatre's most talented director.

I'm waiting for Peter's European tour to see him. His latest CD, UP, is in my opinion the best CD he has released. It doesn't have any poppy songs on it like Sledgehammer. Instead it has a lot of complex and innovative music on it. It doesn't grab the attention straight away but in the 2 months since its release I have listened to the full CD almost every day, I just love it. It is fast becoming my all time favourite CD in fact.

One of my favourite concert memories comes from a Peter Gabriel concert back in 1977 or 1978. I think it was soon after he left Genesis (the "Solsbury Hill" period).
I was with friends and we were enjoying a great show when suddenly all the lights went off. We stayed in the dark with a very light musical background for a few moments when all of a sudden Peter Gabriel himself re-appeared in a light beam just next to my seat !
He sang for a while (don't really remember the song) shaked some hands (mine included) then disappeared again to re-appear in another part of the concert-hall.
That was a great moment.

I will probably go his next performance near me.

If he performs again near you you would go?
