Auto-rename my mp3-files?
« on: May 06, 2004, 04:32:42 pm »

Is there a plug-in that log on to an online database, finds the album and track info and rename my files to a specific standard?
Where can i find it?

I think aTagger can do this.

Quote
and rename my files to a specific standard?
build into MC. Right click and choose Library tool --> Rename files from tags.

Also if by "Standard" you mean 1 letter in Caps, underscores replaced by spaces, etc... You might want to try Library:Clean up

It does marvels

Ok, so it's built into MC, great.
I remember i used a plug-in back for a year ago or so. It logged in to a music database, extracted the album info, renamed the files and tag info.

But i guess i can use atagger together with the built in functions.

I guess it would be the best way. Does anyone know the name of what plug-in i used?

One more thing, i use the search and replace function, is there a way to use wildcards?

Example of a songnames= "01. Scorpions - Wind of change"
                                           "02. Scorpions - Working day"

I want it to be "Wind of Change" and remove "x. Scorpions - "

How can i remove the numbers?

'search and replace function'? I didn't know there were any such function.

Is that your file name or your ID3 tag?
You can proberbly do the job with either 'rename from tag' or 'fill proberties from filename.'

Could you restate your question? I would be happy to help, if I'm able to.

There is a function in Tools>Library Tools-> Search and replace,

Let's say that i have a album Deep_Purple_-_30_-_Very_Best_Of

It appears in MC like this:
Name:                                                                Artist:                  Album
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deep Purple - 30 - Very Best Of - 01 - Hush             Deep Puple    Very best of
Deep Purple - 30 - Very Best Of - 02 - Black Night     Deep Puple    Very best of
Deep Purple - 30 - Very Best Of - 03 - Speed King     Deep Puple    Very best of
Deep Purple - 30 - Very Best Of - 04 - Child In Time   Deep Puple    Very best of

I want to remove "Deep Purple - 30 - Very Best Of - 01 - " in song #1
etc....

so it would look like this:
Name:                                                                    Artist:                  Album
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hush                                                                      Deep Puple    Very best of
Black Night                                                              Deep Puple    Very best of
Speed King                                                               Dep Puple    Very best of
Child In Time                                                            Deep Puple    Very best of

but since the number of each song changes i can't write replace "Deep Purple - 30 - Very Best Of - 01 - "
but i need to write somthing like: Deep Purple - 30 - Very Best Of - 0* - "

Does anyone have a solution to my problem? It must be something out there i can use? I know because i used a 3. party tool before.

It would be even better if i can use the built in function in MC

Well it dosn't matter what the filename is, when i've imported the songs it shows  up with track number and somethimes album and artist in Songname

I want to remove them, nothing more.

Did you try Tools/Library tools?

Rename file from properties
Fill properties from filename

Select a few files first.  Try a few before you do many.

Fill properties from filename dosn't work at all, i can't see no changes.

But the Find and replace function seems to work, but not for the tracknumbers since they arn't the same for each song.

So what i really miss is a wildcard function in MC's search and replace function

Replace "*-Blur " with ""

where *=tracknumber

Or if someone can hook me up with a 3. party tool for renaming files. I know there is one out there, Wasn't it a sparta-tool?

Sure it matters,

ie, My files are named:

Alice Cooper-Alice Cooper Show-02-I'm Eighteen.ape

If my tags ended up all screwey then I could,
Library Tools
Fille Properties from file name
And change the parameters to :
[Artist]-[Album]-[Track #]-[Name]

So I'm guessing that your files are named something similar, If you could post 1 track name maybe we can help.

Sure it does.  Did you look under properties?  Select a file and press ALT-Enter.

If you are looking for a 3rd party tool, I recommend Lupas Rename. It is freeware of course.  I use it all the time to clean up music files. I am sure there is a way to do it in MC but I find Lupas to be extremely easy.
