Theater View and TheaterTek
« on: May 07, 2004, 03:08:03 pm »

I use my HTPC for two things, and two things only.  First, MediaCenter 10 handles all my music playback (700+ CDs, all in WMA Lossless).  Second, TheaterTek takes care of the DVD playback.  I do not rip my DVDs to disk.  Since my HTPC is hooked up to a front projection system, I control MediaCenter with my Pronto and a neat little utility called Supernudelist.  While I don't get full control over my music, I can handle 90% of what I do without firing up the projector and bringing out the keyboard and mouse.  When I watch a DVD, I still use only the Pronto for everything.

The question I have is whether it is possible for Theater View to launch TheaterTek.  I wouldn't mind using Theater View, or even Standard View, for those occassions when I do have the projector on.  I know I can get myHTPC or XLobby, but I would much rather stay in MC.  My goal is to treat the HTPC as more of a set top box than a PC.  Wherever possible, I don't want anyone to know that a PC is involved.

Note, I'm not interested in DVD playback via MC10.  I really like the TT interface, and I'm pretty hooked on being able to use ffdshow.

Am I out of luck?

Yeah...  the flexibility to add "launch an external program" button to Theater View would be nice.  You might comment to this affect in the thread about "Theater View:  Feature Requests".
