The thread about how many songs you have made me wonder what people's favorite music is but rather than a message board list of artists, etc I thought I'd grab a screenshot of a random sample of 47 of what I consider 5 star songs and share it. I'd be interested in seeing other people lists too. Not scientific but a good representation of the kinda stuff you listen to.

A lot of old rock ( I'm a "child of the sixties"). A great deal of classical (Love it). All of the RE-discovered bluegrass AND blues I could get my hands on (I grew up with it but forgot about it until recently). A lot of recently discovered jazz - old & new (Where WAS I when I could have actually gone to see Wes Montgomery and Stan Getz?). And, find of all finds, a Bluegrass/jazz fusion ("Progressive Bluegrass", they call it) ... Bela Fleck, Tony Trischka, Allison Brown ... stuff like that. Rhapsody is extremely good for all of the above, BTW.

Metal, especially power metal, black metal (after all I'm from Norway - the homeland of black!) and progressive metal, modern country (like Alan Jackson - even if it's not politically correct and the first two albums of Shania Twain), and more radio orentated stuff. Not modern jazz (of the kind where they only have to begin and end at the same time, and the rest is up to the individual musician), classic music (mostly boring, but there are exceptions, like metal versions of classic music) and especially not "easy listening". Boooooooring!

Everything but Rap and most HipHop...just can't get into all that rage. this am's mix includes: the Ka'au Crater Boyz, the Bario Boyz, Emilio, Sting, Phil Collins, Alan Jackson, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Mozart, Handel, Tony Bennet, Wayne Newton, The Kentucky Headhunters, Mano' Company, Kai, Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, Little Jimmy Dickens, Kid Rock,Mya and Jerry Vale.

Guitar Players such as Joe Satriani , Phil Keaggy, Stevie Ray Vaungh,Larry Carlton Guys like that . Also like to listen to Pearl Jam ,Pink Floyd, The Beatles and I guess abit of everything except country,rap or hip hop.

Mostly jazz - and my tastes range from Ellington to avant garde, with lots and lots of Blue Note in between.

Smattering of rock and blues - Dylan, the Band, Grateful Dead.

Very little turntable stuff - DJ Spooky and a few others.

Well, my list of genres in MC includes things such as death-doom, sympho-black, doom, gothic-doom, majestic black and darkwave, in no particular order. I usually omit "metal" because it is assumed by default in my collection =)

eek! death doom...sounds fun

My collection is mainly electronic stuff, from ultra chilled ambient thorough space-ambient, trip hop, lo-fi, electronica, funky beats, nuNRG, house, trance, euro-trance, techno, hardcore to gabba

although some gabba is probably resampled death doom, only much much faster...

I like any band that has talented musicians, singers and songwriters. This necessarily excludes country (modern country), rap and hip-hop.

I find that I mostly prefer bands that are unique in their genre. Cookie cutter bands do not interest me, and unfortunately, that's almost all that is available from the mainstream publishers anymore.

If something has a catchy toon its tough for me to resist!

Wouldn't it be nice if MJ could produce a list of artists with the number of tracks that each has? Statistics doesn't quite do it... Unless I'm being silly about something...

My list is something along:

Chillout, Drum & Bass, Norah Jones, Beethoven, Haydn, Queen, Live, R.E.M...

Sort of. Anything with a good tune will do. I don't usually do R 'n B, but Yeah! by Usher is one of my current favourites...
