i have ripped my entire cd collection to ogg.  mj recognizes the tags, but no other program seems to.  windows xp and winamp don't seem to know the album, artist, etc.  does mj put the tags into the music files themselves, or is this info just stored in the database?

They're stored in the tags (but in your case it's sounds like in the DB only). Download WinVorbis and check them with that. WinAmp counts...XP doesn't (for tagging that is). MJ is running fine in all other aspects, I assume?

PS: You know this one....make sure file are not marked as Read Only

ok.  the tags are actually there.  xp is ignoring them and winamp is not showing them.  does anyone know how to display the album in the playlist window of winamp2? (i am only using winamp to stream with oddcast, mj is still my player of choice  :) )

Winamp 2.80 shows ogg tags. If you double-click on the song name, you can view and modify all tags.
If you want to see album in the playlist, you can edit plugin preferences.
