It's interesting to note that 40% of the poll have more than 140GB.

It's at the point where one's collection gets unwieldy that MC helps manage it all.

My client is a large financial institution in NYC.

SAN makes it all possible.

Shady - what pieces of hardware do you even piece together to make a yottabyte?

That would be one trillion one terabyte hard drives....  There aren't enough hard drives on this planet for that much storage. :)

Are we talking archival tapes?

Like I said folks - SAN:  Storage Area Networks.

LOTS of fiber connected frames.

Think EMC and HDS as a start.  There's also a quite a few older ESCON IBM units.

Single frames can now provide over 100TB easily.

When I mentioned SAN makes it all possible I should have also pointed out that it is most certainly not all in the same location.  We just use it as if it was  ;D (At least what exists in the same continent, since this storage is spread around the globe).

I have about 44 GB of VBR MP3s, but I've only ripped about half of my collection. I own about 3600 CDs, which usually wows the casual listener, but apparently I've entered the pissing contest to end all pissing contests.

Yottabyte. I thought Terabytes were scary. I thought my 500 GB NAS box at work was beefy.

Currently 117,278 mp3s - 531,3 GB
Still some 3,000 CDs to rip

Listening to: 'Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On' from 'The Legendary Sun Records Story [BOX SET] (CD 1)' by 'Jerry Lee Lewis' on Media Center 10

You could add another 117,278 mp3's, but you won't find one as good as Whole Lotta Shakin' by Jerry Lee Lewis.   ;D
