Smartlist Help
« on: May 20, 2004, 05:32:00 pm »

Two items:

1   Looking to get a smartlist that will get at least one track from every artist in my database.  I have tried different flavors of ~dup and ~nodup, but they are not yielding the right information (one allows tracks from artists that only have one track, the other allows tracks from artists with more than one track).

2   Is there a way to use the Genre= to search for all genres that contain a word?  Example Given: I have two genres: BLUES ROCK, and FOLK BLUES.  And I would like to set the smartlist to allow any genre with the word BLUES in it.  Currently, I am only getting genres that start with BLUES, regardless of "" or [] combinations.

I am on MC 9.0.180.

Thanks!

MC 10 changes the ~nodup to do just what you want for #1.

For #2, [Genre]="Blues" or just [Genre]=Blues will do it.  Brackets around the search forces the string to start / end that way, which you don't want.

Like Matt says if you build a nodup smartlist based on [Artist] it will list all tracks in your DB except each artist name will only appear once.

The workaround is to upgrade.  MC 10 is a lot better all around, so it's worth your time anyway.

Oops.  Sorry, sometimes I just don't read properly.

Yes upgrade to 10. There's lots of little tweaks like this that when all combined together make it a much better application and well worth the upgrade.
