comparing compression formats (128kbs): ogg vorbis wins

Here is the description of the test:

Have a look at the results.

I'm happy to see that vorbis wins! As a side note, maybe MC should be thinking on including the new Ogg Vorbis Encoder:  aoTuV (used in this test).

. maybe MC should be thinking on including the new Ogg Vorbis Encoder:  aoTuV (used in this test).

I've been using the Ogg encoder, GT3b2, with MC for some time.  I simply (1) put it into the MC plugins directory, (2) created copies of it and the MC version of 'oggenc.exe', and (3) then renamed the version I wanted to use as 'oggenc.exe'.  It should work transparently, although I cannot speak for the version you mention.  I'll have to try it, but I am extremely happy with GT3b2 and 'Q=7'.

Care has to be taken when installing new versions of MC, so that the encoder doesn't get overwritten ... but I find myself simply making sure it's not because updating seems to be respectful of the encoders.

[edit]  I note from Hydrogen Audio's Recommended Ogg Vorbis Encoders thread:
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?showtopic=15049&

... that aoTuV is reccommended for Q<5 and GT3b2 for Q>5

So, which encoder IS MC using?  And, how come noone has made a plugin to allow for selection of the individual encoders ?

Is it that tough ?
