Remote Control with Smart TV Stereo?

You see, I'm a complete newbie at this stuff... I read about programs like Girder, but it just doesn't make any sense. I'd like to be able to use my remote control that came with my Hercules Smart TV Stereo card. Which plugin/software/whatever do I use?..
