play count in tag?
« on: May 31, 2004, 05:56:21 pm »

Is there a way to keep the play count within the tags.  I just rebuilt my library from scratch and have lost all of that data.

I have now changed the option in "Tree & View" -> "Library Fields" -> "Store in file tags (when possible)" to be checked for "Number Plays"; can anyone tell me if this will sort my problem?

You can check the contents of the tags in the file via the Action Window (File Info or something like that).

Hi,

Go to Tools>Options
Then choose Trees&Views
In the library fields box select "Number Plays" > Edit
Check the box labeled "Store in file tags (when possible)"

that's it !

Using formats such as APE, MPC, OGG, MP3 (with id3v2 tags) this will store the playcount within the tags next time it is updated.
You will need to do "Library Tools / Update Tags (from library) if you want to update your  tags with current playcounts.
As always with tag and file manipulation, try with a few files first !

hope it helps,

cheers,

C.

Doesn't the tag just get updated automatically?

playcount is not part of the tags, if it was there would be 1000 complains MC10 is changing the tags everytime it plays a song.

then there would be 1000 compliants mc10 is too slow re tagging the files using id3v2 tags

then there would be 1000 complainsts for users that don't use id3v2 tags that mc10 is not saving the play count.

back maybe a year+ ago they changed it to save just to the database.

because there was about 1000 complaints that the sky was still blue and that the ice caps were melting.

So why does the date modified stamp of mp3's get updated every time you play a track?

Well, you're right it gets updated automatically each time the value changes, but if you want the tags to reflect some current playcount without playing the file you need to do an explicit tag update.

Yep, it's a good thing that the playcount is not saved inside the tags as a default behaviour.
However it's quite nice to have the ability to save any field in the tags when required.

I think 'date modified' is a system file property. Therefore it is not stored inside the tags but managed by the operating system.

Ciao folks and have a nice day,
