Multizone shortcomings
« on: June 23, 2004, 08:33:39 pm »

Is there any chance that down the road Media Center will have the ability for programs like MusicLobby and Netremote to be able to get the Playing Now information for each zone configured simultaneously. Right now in multi-zone/multiclient setups when the zone gets selected all zones/clients are changed to that zone's current information. It would be much better to be able to get the album cover, current playing track, ect for each zone. Its great to have multiple zones but this change would make it much better.

I'd definitely cast a vote for this functionality.  Many of us are using MC10 in conjunction with Cinemar's MusicLobby to send audio to multiple zones.  It would be great to be able to see what is currently playing in each zone simultaneously, so that users in each zone would see what is playing in their zone.

Based on a thread in our forum, I've decided to tackle this issue for MusicLobby 2.0. I realize JRiver may have a solution up their sleeve; however, I think I've got a way to do it with their current SDK.

I would imagine that your solution would have something to do with scanning through the zones and stuffing the information into variables. Although this might work it would also put a drain on the CPU. I think we need to try and persuade J River's to come up with a better solution.

Hi

What would be really cool is a way to syncronise all the zones, from within media center

Yeah it would be but since there are a few ways to get around that with proper hardware configuration its not nearly as important. I have a sync feature on my Netremote setup.

I'd also really like to see this implemented.  It's also a problem on some of the more advanced hard disk music servers on the market (anything based on the Xiva system), so MC isn't alone in this regard!

I personally don't see why they can't implement a software solution for syncing. There could be a master zone that is designed to play out to all the sound devices configured for the multi-zones. I do it with hardware that way and it works fine.

The original thread was requesting multi-zone views. So that each client could request the album cover, track playing, ect for the zone specified on that client. This way you could have Netremote setup to show only the information and control a specific zone. It would be a much desired improvement for those of us with touch tablets running multiple zones.

That's great news!!! Any chance that the new zone sync functionality will be exposed in the SDK?

Any update on davevans suggestion to have the synch of MC11 exposed via the SDK?
Lots of MusicLobby folks (and NetRemote I am sure) looking for this to be exposed in their UIs.  It's such a tease to have it in the MC11 UI :(

Just want to say that we hear you, and will plan on adding this at some point.

I'm not sure if it can make it in 11.0 though, as we're in the final stretch right now.

Thanks.

Hi Matt,
Any update to synch support in the sdk?
MusicLobby is going thru some current changes and it would be great timing to add it in this round of dev.

So is the individual MultiZone control going to be in 11.0 or not.  I am confused?  Earlier in this post (and on other threads) it was said to be implemented and now it looks like you are saying maybe not in 11.0.  If not that is a big disappointment, if so, it is of little use without SDK support isn't it?

Regards,

John

Explore the IMJZoneAutomation object with the latest MC 11 builds.  You can get the playback, mixer, and playlist for each zone.

The documentation will be updated at a later date, but usage should be self-explanatory if you import the TLB.

Best,
