Help Ipod Mini won't sync
« on: August 09, 2004, 10:38:08 am »

Hi
I just bought a new Ipod mini, and MC10 crashes every time I try to initialize my ipod.
Do I need an updated plugin? I am currently showing 9.0.89 on my handheld plugin list.
And if I need a new plugin where do I get it? I don't see any plugins listed for the Ipod.
I just finished organising my Library on MC10 and I would love to use it ewith my Ipod

Thanks for any help,

Mick

Mick,

Do you have an old version of MC 10? If so, try getting the latest and you will get the latest Portable Plugin which should not crash. Alternately go here....

http://accessories.musicex.com/mediacenter/accessories.php

and get the 'Portable Drive' plugin version 9.0.126.

Mick,

What version of MC do you have and what version of the Portable Plugin is installed (as reported under Tools->Plugin Manager->Handheld->Portable Drives)?

When you click on the iPod drive letter under devices in the MC tree or sometime else?

In Windows Explorer, please browse to your iPod drive letter and verify that you have a folder called 'iPod_Control' on your iPod mini.

Hey Steve,

Well I have MC Version 10.00 and I just did the latest update today from the Website

Plug in is "Portable Drives V 9.0.126"
and I never get to the iPod drive letter under devices in the MC tree
it errors out before that happens.

There is a folder called "ipod Controll but it is slightly greyed out?
I'm not sure if thats normal.

Also my ipod is loaded with song from itunes. could this be causing the problem?

Do I need to Restore my ipod before conecting to MC?

I sure appreciate all your help

Thanks,

Mick

Mick,

You should not need to restore your iPod, but it might help. Your problem is strange. Where specifically does MC error? Can you ...

1) Start MC with iPod connected.

2) Browse in MC with iPod connected if you do not access the iPod via MC?

3) Expand the 'Devices' tree node with iPod connected?

4) Click on the iPod drive letter?

Steve,

I went to My Computer and watched what happened when I plugged in my Ipod. It appeared briefly and than dissapeared.
So I went back into itunes and enabled the ipod for "Manual" file transfers and this prevented the ipod from going away Now when I go into MC I see the ipod with No errors but when I try to transfer songs it just seem s to sit there and do nothing even though I have initialized the transfer.
Is this normal?
How long should my songs sit in the Que?
And is it posible to bring my playlist that I made in itunes over to MC?

I sure apreciate all your help

Thanks,
Mick

Mick,

First, if you do not have MC 10.0.161 please go here and get it.....

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=22999

Then, stop accessing iTunes. Open MC and 'Initialize' iPod which should remove everything from iPod.

How are you initiating the transfer of files to iPod in MC? Try drag and dropping files on the iPod drive letter and then click 'Transfer' in the Action Window. Alternately, try right clicking on the iPod drive letter and select 'Syncrhonize' and select playlists to send.   Songs will sit in the queue until you select 'Transfer' in the Action Window.

In regards to iTunes playlists, it is best to create these playlists in MC using MCs tools. Alternately, search this board for recommendations on how to export iTunes song lists and then import them into MC.  You will need to export the lists to text files and then convert to m3u.

Mick,

iPod won't play wma files.  You will need to convert these files. You can do this during the transfer to iPod if you select 'Options' and then 'Force file conversion'.
