Can only watch video in fullscreen
« on: July 07, 2004, 09:51:01 am »

Hi. This is a problem I have had for some while.

When I try and view a video in windowed or internal view, I get no picture. I sometimes get the first few frames, then just black. Sound is not affected.

When I go fullscreen, the picture (usually) appears, and is fine. Then, when I go from fullscreen to windowed, the picture (usually) stays, until I start a new video. I say usually because I can't be sure the behaviour is 100% consistent. Almost though.

I have had this issue sometimes in WMP, but it seems never in RealPlayer or Nero Media Player, so while I accept it is not MC-dependent, it is consistent in MC, and MC is my player-of-choice, so I thought I'd seek help here.

I have updated my video drivers (several times) and uninstalled and reinstalled MC (now using MC10 trial; am not keen to upgrade from MC9 unless I can fix this). I am wondering if this is to do with CODECs, although I am not an expert in this area.

If someone could tell me how to check which CODECs I have/need, and where/how to change them if necessary, I would be grateful. Alternatively, if someone has another idea about what could be causing this, that would be great.

Short of reformatting HD and starting again, I'm out of ideas.

Many thanks.

PS Am running Windows 2000 Professional SP4, if this is relevant.
