I get the error message Sense key=5, ASC=48, ASCQ=6 when I try to burn a CD. Can someone help?

I am using version 9.1.316

Try burning at 2X speed. If that works ok, the error is probably buffer under-run. Try unchecking the "direct decode" option. Also, post your system info here (from MC's help menu).

I am burning a CD at 2x and it seems to be working fine.  So 2 questions:

1)  What do I do to be able to burn at a faster speed?
2)  Do I still uncheck the "Decode files..." box?

Consider moving up to v10...

While I don't think there was any monumental changes, there has many bug fixes (AFAIK) that may help your situation. Your computer is certainly muscular enough to do faster burning.

I agree about upgrading to v10. Before you do that though, verify that DMA is enabled for this drive. Here is a link with help about DMA (see the section headed "To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager"):

That seems to have fixed it.  DMA was enabled, but the instructions directed me to toggle between the other setting and back to DMA, then reboot.

I burned at 2x and 48x with no problems.
