I use CUE files and create APL files to use with Media Center.  Over 10,000 tracks work fine, but I noticed problems while importing 3 of my albums.  They all have non-standard characters in them.  Take a look at this screen cap to see these file names.  On import, the tags in the APL files aren't read and playback fails.  If I simply change the file names for the APL (not the original CUE or APE file, I can leave the funny characters there), it starts playing the file.  All I do is change the filename, no changes in the file or what it points to.  Any ideas?.

I've had this problem with MC10 for a while (currently running 173).

It's actually not an MC bug. I guess you used MakeAPL tool (from Monkey's Audio) for making APL files.



In this picture the first APL file is made with Foobar2000 and the second with MakeAPL (from MA 3.99F). So MC can read APL files with accented characters, but MakeAPL tool seems to be buggy.

The original APE filename in CUE sheet was this:

I renamed the main APE file, corrected the CUE sheet and made new APL files. Things started to work also with MakeAPL. It's relatively easy to check that the APE file name includes only "normal" ASCII characters. CUE track entries can contain any characters.

Thanks for the reply.  I was out of town with no net access for a week.  Yes, I am using MakeAPL.  Thanks for finding the problem.  I will change those manually for now.  

Just so I get it right, did you rename the original APE file to not include any accented characters and modify the corresponding CUE file to reference the new file name? Did you also rename the CUE file itself to correspond to the way you renamed the APE file?  I'll try it in a little while.

I renamed the APE file and corrected the filename inside the CUE sheet.

I think I renamed also the CUE file. I have always identical names for the APE and CUE files. (I have already deleted the test files). Probably it doesn't matter. MakeAPL does not use the name of the CUE file.

I  did what you suggested, renamed both the APE and CUE (just to be consistent), modified the name of the APE file inside the CUE file and left everything else the same.  Worked like a charm!  Thanks a million.
