Burning a data CD with MC
« on: July 14, 2004, 03:01:00 am »

I find MC great for burning Audio CD's or MP3 disks but burning a straight forward data CD is a real pain.  For example, I have a folder on my desktop called X which contains some sub folders and various files in each sub folder.  I want to burn it to the CD so that you simply have a folder of X in the root of the CD and within it the folder heirarchy is maintained like the original.  The best I can come up with is to set a folder naming convention of 'same as original' but that results in the folder being put on the CD in F:\documents and settings\jlee\desktop\x...etc.

I gave up and used Easy CD creator which just did it.

I think the problem with MC is that the data CD naming options are geared around MP3 disks and it is very good for that.  Perhaps there should be 3 types of disks: Audio, MP3 & Data.  I seem to remember this is what MMJB used to do.

You're right, there should be a separate "Data disk" type.
For now, set the folder naming scheme to "None" and the file naming scheme to "same as original" with the "prefix list order" option disabled. Now drag and drop your folders onto the action window ("Drop files here") or click "Show list" and drag and drop into the right view.
Now you should be able to burn and get the right folders on the CD.

The problem (bug) is that if you select another folder naming option while these files are queued up, then re-select the "None" option, all the path information will be removed.
