Partitioning the iHP
« on: July 21, 2004, 04:05:30 pm »

I'm wondering if anyone has partitioned their iHP with non-MS filesystems.  I'd like to reserve like the last 10 Gb of the drive for an ext3 partition and a swap partition so that I can install Linux (Knoppix poor-man's install).

I'm afraid that if I go about paritioning the drive I might permenantly damage the player's ability to read the disk.  Any help to this end would be greatly appreciated.

I'm considering making a website devoted to the idea of installing operating systems onto large HDD mp3 players (greater than 2 Gb that is) since I can't seem to find one on the internet.

jimbojw,

I have reformatted partitioned my player but with a single partition. You will probably have to ask iRiver for this question. Or maybe on misticriver. On the other hand I don't see any reason why it should not work.

My question is why would you wanna have another OS on the iHP-140, for what reason. Please enlighten me.
