Media Icons...
« on: August 22, 2004, 11:53:30 am »

If you allow MC to take over all media file associations you get the MC file icon.  How do you determine if one file is a image while another is a MP3?

There really needs to be a way (besides looking at the file properties) to visually identify what a file is.  That's what icons are for.  So, slightly altered icons for each type of media (music, image, video) would be awesome.  Really, really awesome.  I know this has been mentioned before, but that was some time ago.  I beseech the MC gods to grant this one small request!  Thank you.

Now that I am using more images and movies in MC,  having different icons for each would be great.   ;D

You can tell by looking at the file extension.

My Computer -> Tools menu -> Folder Options... -> View tab -> untick 'Hide extensions for known file types'

Yeah, but it would really be better if different file types had different icons.

Exactly - I know that they have different extensions, but being a visual person, I perfer to have different icons for different stuff....maybe a camera for pics, a projector for movies.  we already have those nice musical notes in the view pane for music.  It may be frivilous, but I like variety!   Bet

I would also greatly appreciate such a user-friendly move!

Wouldn't be that hard. Instead of using 'Media Center File', use 'Media Center File (Audio)', (Video), (Image). Then just set the 3 different icons to whatever.

Only thing about this is that by doing it manually, I'm sure MC would overwrite them with each new build installed.

So I would have to agree with you even though I don't really care that much about them. I suppose someone that uses explorer extensively would like to see what they're looking at.

Personally I do not care about this but I think that if somebody made new MC-like icons for video, image and sound files it would be easier to convince the devs to imply it.

This has been requested before. I don't remember why (if) it was discarded...

I've seen other media related programs that, when associated with multiple media type files, have differing icons for each.  It'd really be a great feature imo.
